From close up ring photos to moments where you are holding hands, brushing hair away, or wrapped in an embrace. Because of this, make sure your nails are clean, shaped, and polished. Neutral nail colors photograph beautifully and feel timeless, but the most important thing is that polish is fresh and not chipped. This applies to men as well. Clean trimmed nails make a subtle but noticeable difference in photographs.
If you plan to have your hair touched up, try to schedule highlights, color appointments, or trims about a week before your session. This gives your hair time to settle and look natural rather than freshly styled. The same goes for brows. If you typically have your brows waxed or threaded, aim to do this about forty eight hours before your session so any redness has time to fade.
Think about the overall polished look you want to achieve. Moisturized skin, neatly groomed facial hair, and wrinkle free clothing all help elevate the final result. Steam or press outfits ahead of time and avoid trying something brand new the morning of your session. When everything feels comfortable and prepared, you will naturally feel more confident in front of the camera.

Spray Tans & Self Tanner
If you plan to use self tanner or get a spray tan for your engagement photos, timing makes a big difference. The ideal time is about two to three days before your session. This allows the color to fully develop and settle into a natural tone rather than looking freshly applied.
Giving it a couple of days also allows you to shower and rinse off any excess bronzer so it will not transfer onto clothing. Fresh spray tans can sometimes appear slightly orange or uneven on camera, so avoiding the day before or the day of your shoot is best.
If you are trying a new product or salon, consider testing it a week or two beforehand. A subtle, natural glow photographs beautifully and helps you look polished without distracting from the overall look of your photos.
